About Dirty Hands Furniture

Ben Preece grew up in a small farming community and spent his youth exploring the wilds of central Idaho. Upon graduating from the University of Idaho with a BA in Business Marketing, he enjoyed a seasonal lifestyle of summer river guiding on the Middle Fork of the Salmon and winters travelling the world. After years of living the free life of a migratory adventurer, Ben found himself desiring a stable home base and stumbled onto the community of Telluride, Colorado. Fourteen years later, Ben has settled into living the dream with his wife and two toe-headed young boys living “down valley” in Placerville, Co.

Ben discovered a passion for woodworking through his tenure at Telluride Woodworks, a renowned custom cabinetry shop. The experience of designing and creating custom pieces gave Ben the opportunity to increase his skill and artistic talent. Ben soon acknowledged the beauty in mixing wood and metal into a fresh creative style. Upon purchasing a welder and incorporating metal into his works, he found his hybrid creations both inspiring and refreshing. With the completion of each new piece and at day’s end, the sense of accomplishment was obvious.

After years of creating side-work pieces for charity auctions and gifts, Ben decided to commit to fine tuning his love for wood and metal work by opening his own shop. In the spirit of a deeply satisfying livelihood born of calloused and dusty digits, Dirty Hands Furniture Company was born. As an independent furniture maker, Ben has the ability to really listen to customers and pay attention to detail, beauty, quality and form in his work.
